A new Trex Class Action Lawsuit

I just received this email message in my inbox.  With any luck this lawsuit will actually go somewhere unlike the previous one from Hagens Bermans.

I am an attorney working on the Trex issue and looking for people interested in joining a class action. I AM NOT ASSOCIATED WITH HAGENS BERMAN'S OFFICE. I am with the Law Offices of Jennifer R. Snyder in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please email be at jennifersnyder10@gmail.com or call 510-825-3822 if you are interested in a Trex action. Jennifer R. Snyder, Esq.

I informed Jennifer that I would be more than happy to join the class action suit against Trex.  Hopefully I can still join despite the fact that I'm no longer a Trex Deck owner (thank God).  Either way, I'm out $7000 because of their product and refusal to help customers like me.

  1. Boy, am I glad I stumbled upon this site. I was looking for some place to post the fact that I HATE HATE HATE!!! our Trex deck and want to warn other people away from ever buying this stuff. We rebuilt our wooden deck several years ago since I got tired of cleaning that, but it was WAY less of a problem than Trex has been. It has grown that yucky black mold as well as moss on it which cannot even be scrubbed off so we just live with little tufts of green fur on it. Apparently we got a bad batch of the stuff also since now it's shredding like crazy. I've tried bleach-based cleaners that are supposed to be approved for Trex but all that did was lighten the deck and make it look worse. Oh, and their warranty doesn't include the cost of someone replacing it, does it? $10,000 is way too much money to spend on this crap.

  2. I am so frustrated with my Trex Deck. I purchased Trex less then 2 years ago. With in 2 week of installation the nice brown color turn into a very light tan. Within 1 month the light tan turned into a splotchy black mess. I cleaned it with the recommended deck cleaner and a pressure washer. With in 2 weeks the black mold returned. If I had not spent $10,000 on this decking I would rip it up and go back to wood. At least with wood I only needed to treat it once a year and not every 2 weeks.

  3. I, too, am very frustrated with my TREX DECK. Mine has not only mildew/mold, but is falling apart !! The individual pieces are decaying - turning into sawdust. It was my understanding that it was not only low maintenance, but also guaranteed for 20 + years. I'm pretty sure that I have my receipt (which is from 2007, I think) - I will look to see if I kept the brochure also.
I definitely want to be included in the lawsuit!! Please post an address so that I may be included.

    Thank you all for sharing!!!

  5. I see I am not alone. I do not understand how Trex is staying in business . I guess we are not doing a good enough job getting the word out. I intend to do everything I can to let people know about mine. Thanks for the site.

  6. I am still trying to get some kind of relief from Trex.I purchased my deck in 2007. It looks HORRIBLE! Bowing, flaking, mold, midew, splintimg, shrinking, fading, cracking. Terrible! I contacted Trex, they said it was the contractors fault, etc... Contacted the MD State Attorney General's Office, they could not help. I did not get anything from Trex notifying me of the past Class Action Lawsuit. I have contacted private attorneys, they don't seem interested. Can anybody help, or am I just out of $15000.00? :( dandelion196611@yahoo.com

  7. Our Trex deck is less than two years old and we started noticing the spots on the Saddle color. Our contractor didn't reply. If this has been a known issue since at least 2005, how are they still selling this product as maintenance free? We hoped to never have do do more than hose the deck off a couple times a year. Very, very disappointed with Trex products.

  8. We had a Trex deck installed which dissolved into sawdust, too. It had a 25 year warranty, given to us by the contractor. They refused to replace it, and handed us off to Trex. We went through the class action steps to get it replaced. There were many hoops, paper work, and unanswered calls. We finally filed a claim against the contractor in small claims court, which ruled in our favor and ordered the contractor to replace the deck. The contractor then finally got on the Trex claims representative to help us. Enough decking was delivered, after six months to fix the deck, but it took another seven months for Trex to send their replacement team out to do the work. They took it down, replaced the planks, and hauled the defective material away. Trex did the replacement on the condition that we would not say anything negative against them. Do not give up or let the contractor or Trex off the hook for standing behind their warranty. If it takes a year and a half, as it did us, it is worth it to make them replace their defective product. We would not recommend using Trex to anyone, and would not buy it again ourselves.

  9. We too have had problems with our Trex deck. My husband cleans it with the Olympic Deck Cleaner that was recommended and within a few weeks it is full of nasty mold again. We spent over 7,000.00 for this deck to replace a 19 year old wood deck. I wish we could go back to wood but just can't afford it! I tell everyone thinking of getting Trex not to do it!!!!!

  10. Had our contractor install Trex decking in 2008. Can't understand why a company would continue to mfg a product with a known safety defect for 5 years. I recently stepped through one of the planks. This stuff deteriorates very quickly. We contacted Trex last year and got nowhere. Thank God for sites like this.

  11. It is important to provide an appropriate spacing between the decking boards. Decking boards treated or untreated which are exposed to the weather will take up and lose moisture from or to the atmosphere as the environment around the timber changes on a seasonal basis, even when sealed or coated.

    1. My deck boards were properly spaced. The product is garbage plain and simple.

  12. I too HATE, HATE, HATE our Trex deck. We just had our deck installed the end of June 2012 and how I wish I would have found this site sooner. Over $12,000 spent on this crap and it looks horrible. It took me almost 10 years to talk my husband into replacing our deck and after he spoke to a few of his partners that have decks made out of this material he decided to replace our deck with this crap. I am getting ready to contact the contractor that built the deck to see what he has to say but I am also ready and willing to participate in any class action lawsuit that has already been filed against Trex. This material is nothing but a hot, nasty black toxic mess!!! If anyone has information about the class action suit please let me know. Thanks so much!!

  13. I am to so disappoint with this junk that said it was the green thing to do and now we are stuck with black and green mold and it just looks terrible. I am afraid that the only thing we can do it replace it but I cannot afford it.

  14. I purchased Trex Railing for our deck and within one week after
installation the Transcend Crown Railing began to form blister's.
I thought we were buying a top choice product, but it appears we
were misled by Lowe's. I have made many attempts to contact Trex.
The phone message answer is, " we're having a high volume of calls,
please leave name and phone number and we will call you back in
the order your call was answered. Lots of luck. They do not
    return call.

  16. Does anyone know where to get the claim forms from. I have misplaced mine

  17. Forget the trex website. I filled in the forms last year and finally they sent a guy out a few weeks ago to look at the crappy deck. I just got a letter denying my claim and they are so sorry that I am not happy with my deck. I hate Trex and will never use them again.

  18. I too bought Trex decking and spent almost $20,000 on it with installation. I got it in April 2013. I am sick about it but Im going to try to get this out to the public so they will go out of business.

  19. I purchased what was supposed to be a new home in 2008. The front porch and back deck had spots on it, but I was busy unpacking and didn't think too much of it. In less than a month, the deck and porch were not only covered with spots, but there was total mold everywhere. No one seems to want to help. I have cleaned the porch and deck with every recommended cleaner, at least every 3 to 4 weeks. I am really fed up with this. Trex does not want to hear any of my complaints!

  20. I moved into what I thought was a new model home in 2008. My front porch has trex decking composite material, as does the back deck. I have had nothing but trouble with the porch and back deck. twisting, bubbling, flaking, expanding and deteriorating trex. Mold is abundant. I have contacted the company numerous times, They responded with a letter saying the material does not look like their trex and I should contact the original proof of purchase, or my original supplier to find who the manufacturer is. They told me the warranty does not apply. On my purchase and sale, the list of items in my house spells out Trex, don't think it can be any clearer.

  21. I have had a TREX deck for 10 years, it is low maintenance in a dry climate, however, it disintegrates. I received my settlement from TREX and they have 'graciously' covered the original costs of the material and less than 20 cents per board foot extra for installation. costs -- I guess they are covering the cost of screws? Nature made materials is the way to go.
